I need suggestions please!

Well my kids' birthday is coming up in 2 months. My friend, Stephanie who's twins were born 4 days after mine, has her kids birthday already planned. AND she has a baby on the way. I on the other hand am still trying to figure out if I'm going to have a big party or small party or what. So I need your help.

My kids will be 4 on July 27th. I don't want to spend lots of money. Do I "try" to let them pick out their own theme? I don't see how they will all agree on the same thing. Do I "try" to make a party with 3 different themes? Should I just pick a theme and not even ask them?

I have 2 boys and 1 girl. I'm not willing to have 3 parties. I'm sure that will come later on.

What things should we do at the party? Play games? We attempted musical chairs last year and pin the tail on the donkey...they were all too young for it. I was a basketcase last year...I think I want things toned down or just be very well prepared. Do you have any suggestions?

ALSO, I want to make the guest bedroom into Ashley's room for her birthday. But Ashley doesn't want her own room and Austin does. So what do I do now?

If you let them pick...they will change their mind by the date. Besides, thinking back, I did a bunch of stuff for Page's Magical Birthday last year (she was 3 on the 3rd) and no one really noticed.
The jumpy/Bouncy Place in Hermitage might be a fun idea. It's like $3. for each kid and they have tables and stuff for the adults-no charge. They do parties, but it would be pricey. Maybe just pay the admission for the kids with the invite (or RSVP) and have cupcakes or rice crispie treats instead of cake.
Give the girl her room! Maybe if she came over to play in Page's princess room (yeah) she'll get the vibe to pink and purple her life!!!!!!

I had planned to comment, but Renee did a great job. I would take her advice and run with it.

Four year old children should not run the world, however much they may want to do that. You make the decisions.

I would choose the theme...first because they are still young enough that you can do it and they won't really notice and when they are older they will want to do it... second because they probably won't agree and third they will change their mind 3 times over before July! If you wanted to let them choose something...you could not go with a "theme" like a character or animal, but let them each choose a color and you can buy the balloons, plates, napkins etc in those three colors....The generic colored plates and things are much cheaper than the licensed stuff anyway.
I don't know what your budget is, but renting one of those bouncy things is an easy party so long as you don't have a million kids coming. They make me nervous if you get too many people in at once. Then you get to have it at home and where I have rented them from you get them early in the morning until about 5, so your kids would have time to bounce in it without any party friends.
You can cut costs by making your own cake or those cupcakes you make in ice cream cones have always been a hit...and use sprinkles in the colors they pick.
Sorry for the book...I have parties to plan as well starting in July (the 29th), Cody will be 10!

My friend has a party place in White House. They rent the bouncy things for $140 which is more than I can afford. LOL But it does sound like a plan!

I love Martha type birthdays (have you seen her Kids mag?) with whimsical non-themed cakes. When I say non-themed, I mean NOT Dora, Strawberry Shortcake, etc. which is what we always have to have. If I could go back to Caroline being smaller, I would have a party with all bright, whimsical flowers (kind scrapbookey). Anywho...could you do a half and half party? Half boy, half girl? What about some theme like princess and prince where the boys are princes and the girl is a princess? Then you could have a castle cake.

Or maybe you could have animals as the theme and have a puppy dog cake or something. I usually go the lazy route and just go to Party City and pick a theme.

As far as games go, definitely do a Pinata with a pull-string. That's the highlight of CC's parties.

I think simple is better. Save the fancy schmancy stuff for when they are older and will appreciate it.

Not bein a mom, my advice may not be on target...but my nieces favorite birthday was when there were things to do (throw water balloons, paint a frame that they took their picture home in and played a scavenger hunt game). She is 8 but she still talks about that party as the best ever... and I don't think there was one "character" associated with it and no theme other than HAPPY BIRTHDAY.....

If I can be of assistance, let me know...I have a couple of good hands.
